Alternative Energy Portfolio Standard (APS) Program
The Alternative Energy Portfolio Standard (APS) provides an incentive to Massachusetts homeowners and businesses to install eligible alternative energy systems that lower greenhouse gas emissions and increase energy efficiency across the Commonwealth. The APS is a market based program that requires a portion of the electric load in Massachusetts be met via eligible technologies. Generation Unit owners receive an incentive by selling Alternative Energy Certificates (AECs), which they accrue based on their energy generation, to entities in Massachusetts with a compliance obligation.
If you have installed any of the following systems at your Massachusetts property, you may be eligible for a one-time lump-sum payment through the Massachusetts Alternative Energy Portfolio Standard (APS) program.
DO YOU HAVE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING?
• An Air Source Heat Pump System with an output capacity of 134,000 Btu/hour or less
• A Ground Source Heat Pump System with an output capacity of 134,000 Btu/hour or less
• A Solar Thermal System (flat plate or evacuated tube solar hot water) with a collector surface area of 660 sq ft or less
…AND was it installed and in operation on or after January 1, 2015?
If so, simply email Elissa@Knollwoodenergy.com and she will send you step-by-step instructions on how to get started.
HOW IT WORKS
Once your system is registered with MassCEC, Knollwood Energy takes it from there. We handle your NEPOOL GIS registration, manage the sale of your Alternative Energy Credits (AECs), and pay you directly for your credits. Small qualifying systems are eligible for “pre-minting,” meaning all of your AECs for the full 10-year lifespan of your system are issued upfront and paid out in a single lump-sum payment.
We exclusively represent sellers, never buyers. That means our only goal is to maximize the payment you receive.
DON’T MISS THE DEADLINE
Your MassCEC registration must be submitted by May 15th to ensure the AECs mint on July 15th. If you miss that deadline, the next one will be August 15th.
